Planète Enfants was founded in 1992 following travels to Nepal by its founder in the early nineties. PE is an international solidarity NGO, non-religious and non-political, recognized as a charitable organization by French authorities. Since its creation, PE has fought for the rights of all children, as described in the Children Rights Convention of 1989, the right to an identity (civil status), to education and care, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, to access information and the right to protection against all forms of violence and exploitation. Over the years, however, we have assembled our forces around a single battle, the fight against human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and children. In parallel and following missions to different parts of the world (Benin, Kosovo, Morocco, India….) we have focused our programs on Nepal. The situation there is indeed very alarming, as exemplified by the number of girls trafficked every year to India for the sole purpose of sexual exploitation which is estimated at around 15,000 per year. 40% are under sixteen. We have received a number of awards and recognition in acknowledgment of the relevance of our actions and of their impact: 1998: Human Rights Prize awarded by the French Republic 2002: Recognized as a charitable organisation 2002: Approved by the French Foreign Office as a supplier of international solidarity volunteers 2002: “Foreign documentary” Prize of the Children’s Foundation for the film “ An end to trade in Samandradevi in Nepal” broadcast by the French TV program “Faut pas rêver” 2003: AGFUND (Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations) prize 2005: Prize for Solidarity Communication, press section 2007: First prize for “Innovative projects in the fight against trafficking” AGFUND 2007. Special mention from the HCCI (High Council of International Cooperation) for the establishment of rehabilitation standards in centers for women, victims of violence. Planète Enfants is affiliated with the federative association “The voice of the child,” which numbers 76 member associations working for the protection of children. Today, in 2009, we hope to extend our actions not only to countries where the victims are trafficked, but also to France where the victims are sent. |
