PASSPORT THROUGH HELL: a program for the prevention of human trafficking and migrations at risk PDF Print E-mail

A greater and greater number of people from Nepal leave the country in search of employment.  Nevertheless, while certain migrations are real opportunities, most of the candidates find themselves in situations of exploitation, or even slavery.  Beyond the hell that awaits them, this phenomenon also deprives hundreds of thousands of children of protection because their mothers have left the home.

The project established in the districts of Banke, Bardia, and Surkhet aims at informing authorities, communities, the general public and potential migrants through the use of centers of information, radio programs, and numerous other operations. The project also aims at protecting vulnerable women who are under pressure to leave their homes, by proposing economic alternatives.

The activities proposed are:

  • The opening of a center for safe migration (SMRC: Safe Migration Resource Center). In the center the potential candidate for emigration can find necessary information and documents so that he or she is adequately informed about the risks linked to migration.
  • Strong support to assist vulnerable women in developing income generating activities
  • Dissemination of information and awareness building for the general public about the risks linked to migration
  • Organization of informational meetings on the evolution of legal procedures available to the major actors in the fight against trafficking (police, authorities, non-profits, etc.)

Expected results include:

  • The prevention of human trafficking
  • The promotion of safe migration
  • The fight against violence towards women and children
  • The reinforcement of the economic capacities of women in their fight against trafficking
